Finland Education

Image
The Finland education system is doing very well against the top ranking schools. I wish more schools around the world were teaching like this because too many people, including me, zone out on lessons because they won't be that useful to us in the real world. For example, I don't know when I will ever have to use the quadratic formula if I was an entrepreneur. I know Physicists might use it but it isn't directly applicable to every job that somebody would want to be pursued. The fact that they teach things that we will do in our adult life, which I believe is more important than some of the things we learn, is astonishing because it would end students questions of "How does this apply to the real world?". Another great thing that they do is that there are multiple teachers and that give every student the chance to receive help because, with only one, they may spend so much time with one student that another just sits there confused. This would lower bad grade...

Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Image
The Fourth Industrial Revolution is basically the era when we improve our technology so much that we won't necessarily need some of the skills we need currently. We would have to advance alongside our creations as well as how we teach them. It would be so much easier to put most of the lessons that teacher teach online where it is easier to get for the kids who are born with technology surrounding them completely. Activities like quizzes could be done through Kahoot or a different quiz site that is easy to monitor. The collaborative pieces they do would best suit them on Google Docs or a site where they can share it with their partners, one that you can see who did what work. There is also the possibility to make their assignments turned in on digitally so there isn't any more of the "I lost it" talk. We can also prepare them with the skills that they would need to use a computer efficiently. Computers will be put literally everywhere so i...

Teaching Channel video. "S" is for Scarecrow.

Image
"S" is for Scarecrow It showed how everything is done and how to do those things. She showed them pointing to pictures that had started with the letter S which helps kids see new words and read them. The three ways of using the letter and learning it is an amazing way to help the kids learn the letter and sound. The kids learn different ways so having three different ways that it is taught helps every kid master that concept of what the letter looks like and sounds like. Questions to Consider: 1.) How can the 3 components- sing a song, read a story, arts & crafts-be a routine for any letter? A.) It gives the kids the actions of See, Hear, Do. They get to see a story that is read to them, hear a song with the letter in it all over the place, and make a picture of something that starts the letter. You can make a multitude of songs with A's, B's, C's, and so on as the starting letter of  so many words and find story books like that. 2.)Why do students ...

Initiative

Image
To me, initiative means doing something without being told to do it. You put on your big boy/girl pants and do what needs to be done. I can show initiative in my classroom by: Tell kids who are talking, when they're not supposed to, to listen to the teacher. Help the kids get logged in on the computers. Help the kids when she's busy. Answer their questions during team time when they need help. If one kid feels sick, tell them to get a drink of water/ go to the bathroom before telling Mrs. Stuart. Give the kids who are sad a hug. Help the kids with clean up, if they've made a huge mess. Stamp the folders for the teacher Help kids with their work if they're struggling. Let the kids read to me if they don't feel like reading. Synonyms for Initiative: Spirit Energy Gumption Motivation Resourcefulness. Mrs. Stuart had a substitute on Tuesday when I was there and I had helped the kids sign in to the computers like I normally do. I als...
